Could you introduce your local authority and your IT department ?

The Aisne Department is a rural department located in the Hauts-de-France region, with approximately 525,000 residents. Its Departmental Council carries out essential missions: social services, management of secondary schools and roads, professional integration, culture and environment.

The IT directorate is made up of 8 departments, including the Security and Digital Support department. It brings together 58 staff across the studies, production, support, architecture, GIS, administrative management, mail and digital workshop departments. Each department has specific responsibilities, ranging from infrastructure management to end-user support. Its scope covers all Departmental Council services and the 57 public secondary schools.

Before PROVE IT, what were your main challenges or concerns regarding privileged access management ?

We faced several issues: ensuring reliable traceability of actions, applying the principle of least privilege, particularly for shared accounts, and strengthening authentication.

Securing credentials was also a critical point, with risks linked to their distribution or poor management.

What steps did you take to address these challenges ?

We implemented several measures : blocking external access except with MFA authorisation, eliminating shared accounts, using password vaults, and deploying a bastion to secure connections. These actions strengthened control and security over sensitive access.
